Discussion — grounded in the evidence
Selisseo is 100% hydroxy-selenomethionine (OH-SeMet), a pure organic selenium source fully converted to selenomethionine/selenocysteine.
It reliably raises tissue selenium and selenoprotein/antioxidant status more than inorganic selenium, and is reported to exceed seleno-yeast (≈1.48× muscle Se).
The advantage over inorganic Se is well accepted; the margin over seleno-yeast rests largely on Adisseo-authored data, so independent confirmation of that specific claim is limited.
Benefits (redox, immunity, performance) are clearest under oxidative/heat stress.
All selenium use is capped by the EU at 0.5 mg Se/kg complete feed, so 'more tissue Se' operates within that ceiling.
Where studies disagree: That organic selenium beats inorganic selenium is broadly accepted and independently supported; the specific superiority of OH-SeMet over seleno-yeast is supported mainly by Adisseo-authored studies, so independent confirmation of that margin is limited.
Gaps: Few fully independent head-to-head OH-SeMet vs seleno-yeast trials. Specific EU authorisation number for OH-SeMet to be confirmed. No product-specific patent captured.
Manufacturer’s stated mechanism (their words): A pure organic selenium source (the selenium analogue of methionine hydroxy analogue) that is efficiently absorbed and fully converted into selenomethionine and selenocysteine, building tissue selenium reserves and supporting selenoprotein/antioxidant (e.g. glutathione peroxidase) and immune function.
