Manufacturer’s stated mechanism (their words): Yucca schidigera is rich in steroidal saponins. Saponins physically bind ammonia (reducing free NH3 in excreta and air) and are surfactant and membranolytic — they complex with cholesterol in protozoal membranes, suppressing rumen protozoa and methanogens, modifying rumen fermentation and sparing nitrogen.
